Acting High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Kenya, Ruvini De Silva, met the Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Investment Authority, John Mwendwa, on 15 July 2026 to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Kenya.
A significant part of the discussion centred on Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to be held in Colombo from 14–17 January 2027 and the two promotional briefing sessions that will be hosted by the High Commission in Nairobi on 25 September 2026 and Mombasa on 02 October 2026. Acting High Commissioner De Silva invited Kenya Investment Authority to encourage the participation of Kenyan investors and business enterprises at the Expo, highlighting it as Sri Lanka's premier international trade exhibition and an ideal platform to establish new commercial partnerships, explore investment opportunities, and strengthen business-to-business linkages between the two countries.
During the discussions, Acting High Commissioner also highlighted the contribution of Sri Lankan professionals and skilled workers employed in Kenya and requested the Kenya Investment Authority to consider the possibility of reducing work permit fees applicable to Sri Lankan nationals. She noted that such a measure would facilitate greater professional mobility, encourage knowledge exchange, and further strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.
Mwendwa reaffirmed Kenya Investment Authority's commitment to promoting Kenya as a leading investment destination in Africa and welcomed enhanced engagement with Sri Lanka to foster stronger trade and investment ties. He expressed appreciation for the invitation to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and underscored the importance of strengthening institutional linkages and private sector collaboration to unlock new business opportunities.
Both sides agreed to maintain close cooperation in promoting trade and investment, facilitating business exchanges, and exploring new areas of economic partnership that would contribute to sustainable growth and shared prosperity for Sri Lanka and Kenya.
