The Representative of Sri Lanka to the State of Palestine, Farook Mohamed Fawzer, paid an official courtesy call on the Governor of Nablus, Ghassan Daghlas, at the Governorate Headquarters.
At the outset of the meeting, Representative Fawzer conveyed warm greetings and best wishes to Governor Daghlas and the people of Nablus on behalf of the Government and the people of Sri Lanka.
Recognizing Nablus as the historic manufacturing heartland and premier industrial hub of Palestine—renowned for its cornerstone sectors in furniture manufacturing, stone and marble production, food processing, pharmaceuticals, traditional soap making, and vibrant commercial markets—the discussions centered on leveraging Nablus’s industrial strength to enhance direct trade and economic ties with Sri Lanka.
During the meeting, Governor Daghlas warmly welcomed the delegation and provided a comprehensive briefing on the current socio-economic landscape. The Governor detailed the pressing operational hurdles facing Nablus’s industrial and commercial sectors, particularly logistical constraints on trade, movement restrictions, and their broader impact on business continuity, education, and community well-being.
In response, Representative Fawzer reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s dedication to advancing practical economic diplomacy and fostering bilateral partnerships. To actively support local commercial resilience, Representative Fawzer extended a formal invitation to the Nablus business community—through the Nablus Chamber of Commerce and Industry—to participate in Sri Lanka Expo 2027, scheduled to take place in January 2027.
"Nablus serves as a vibrant economic driver for Palestine," noted Representative Farook. "Through platforms such as Sri Lanka Expo 2027, we aim to build direct B2B bridges, connecting Nablus's prominent industrialists, traders, and entrepreneurs with Sri Lankan counterparts to foster mutual growth and sustainable economic collaboration."
Both dignitaries concluded the meeting by reaffirming a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations, supporting trade resilience, and deepening economic cooperation between the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka and the State of Palestine.
