A delegation from the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) of Sri Lanka, comprising 14 officials from the Tri-Forces, visited Bangladesh from 27 July to 09 August 2026 under the International Collaboration Study Package Programme, an important component of the DSCSC’s training programme aimed at enhancing the professional knowledge, leadership capabilities and strategic perspectives of officers of the Sri Lanka Armed Forces.

The visit provided the DSCSC delegation with valuable opportunities to engage with senior military officials, visit key military establishments and exchange views/experiences on bilateral defence cooperation and regional security.  It also enhanced mutual understanding of defence practices and contributed to strengthening professional ties and cooperation between the Armed Forces of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

As part of the programme, the delegation visited the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Dhaka on 07 August 2026. Welcoming the delegation, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh, Dharmapala Weerakkody, briefed the participants on the current context of the consistently growing and close bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, covering a broad range of areas of mutual interest and cooperation. The High Commissioner highlighted that defence cooperation remains an important pillar of the longstanding relationship between the two countries, and noted that professional exchanges and study programmes of this nature play an important role in deepening institutional linkages between the Armed Forces of the two countries.

During the interactive session, members of the delegation shared their knowledge, experiences and observations gained during the study visit and exchanged views on avenues for further strengthening Sri Lanka-Bangladesh defence cooperation.
