Sri Lanka showcased its trade, investment and tourism potential while strengthening engagement with the Asian American business community at the International Asian American Business Expo (IAABE) 2026, held on August 7–8 at the Torrance Marriott Redondo Beach in Torrance, California.

Presented by the Coalition of Filipino American Chambers of Commerce (COFACC), IAABE 2026 brought together business leaders, entrepreneurs, government representatives, and officials from Consulates based in Southern California to promote international business partnerships, investment, and economic cooperation.

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles participated actively in the Expo, highlighting Sri Lanka as a destination for trade, investment and tourism and facilitating greater business and institutional engagement between Sri Lanka and the United States.

Consul General of Sri Lanka Ms. Achini Perera participated in a plenary roundtable with the Consuls General of India, Myanmar and the Philippines. In her remarks, she highlighted Sri Lanka’s priorities of strengthening macroeconomic stability, expanding exports and investment, and diversifying into high-value sectors including ICT, tourism, advanced manufacturing, agribusiness and logistics, with a focus on enhancing long-term competitiveness and quality of life.

Sri Lanka also participated in the Country Trade Opportunities & Consulate Connections Forum, where Ms. Rekha Mallikarachchi, Minister (Commerce), joined commercial representatives from Hong Kong, Mexico, the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia to discuss trade and investment opportunities and strengthen cooperation among consular missions and the business community.

Adding a cultural dimension to the Expo, the Lal Thilakarathna Academy of Performing Arts USA presented a traditional Sri Lankan dance performance during the opening ceremony, showcasing Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.

A dedicated Sri Lanka Country Pavilion operated throughout the Expo, providing businesspeople, investors and visitors with information on Sri Lanka’s trade, investment and tourism opportunities and facilitating direct engagement with representatives promoting Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka’s participation in IAABE 2026 reflects the Consulate General’s continued efforts to advance economic diplomacy, promote trade and investment, and strengthen commercial and people-to-people ties between Sri Lanka and the United States, particularly with the growing Asian American business community in California.
